Training Activities are those that lead to increased proficiency in the current Role.

Training activities may be undertaken in a variety of ways, from formal courses and distance learning to on-the-job training and self-study.

1 Corporate Policies, Standards, Procedures, Guidelines and Tools - Policies, standards, procedures, guidelines, software tools and operating system facilities used in everyday work.
2 Application Development Tools - Software tools that automate or assist the whole development lifecycle, for example IDEs (integrated development environments), visual studio, etc.
3 Systems Development - Systems development, including development lifecycles and methods, organisation interfaces, typical corporate application architectures, project and programme management, risk management and change control.
4 Project Planning and Control - Project planning and control methods and techniques including budgeting and financial control.
5 Standards Creation, Implementation and Monitoring - Methods and procedures for creating, disseminating and monitoring the use of standards relevant to the development and deployment of IT services.
6 Facilitation - Methods and techniques for managing (or facilitating) a meeting or group session (both face-to-face and online) and then through a series of planned activities the creation, by consensus, of products (e.g. lists of business issues, requirements, technical options, etc).
7 Agile Development - Methods and techniques for evolutionary development of IT applications and service, typically making extensive use of modelling and progressive prototyping, involving the owners and end-users throughout.
8 Software Configuration - Installation, configuration and tuning of applications or systems software.
9 Statistical Sampling - Techniques for the accurate and unbiased selection of representative samples of information for analysis or audit purposes.
10 Software Testing Automation Tools and Techniques - Techniques and tools that automate or assist any part of the testing process.
11 Software Testing Management Techniques - Methods and techniques for the effective management of the testing process and the execution of tests throughout the lifecycle of development projects.
12 DevOps - The tools and techniques used to adopt a collaborative approach to rapid IT service and product delivery. - DevOps emphasises people and culture, and seeks to improve collaboration between development (Dev) and operations (Ops) teams with the aim of shortening the systems development lifecycle to provide continuous release (Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment) of high-quality software.
13 Security Awareness - Tools and techniques to help users and employees understand the role they play in helping to combat information security breaches, and for IT and security professionals to prevent and mitigate risk.
14 Techniques for Effective Meetings - Understanding the value of meetings as a management tool; the various types of meeting format and when to use them — formal, informal, online, stand-up etc. - Awareness of supportive meeting technology, and the processes and techniques available to chair or participate. - Having the ability to handle counterproductive behaviour and facilitate effective discussions.
15 Commercial and Business Practice - Understanding of commercial, business practice and terminology, related to the activities of the employing organisation.
16 Stakeholder Relationship Management - Negotiation, presentation and engagement skills to adapt and address the needs of different stakeholders in order to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
17 Quality Management - Principles and practices of quality systems, models, manuals, procedures and plans; quality assurance and audit; external quality standards such as TickITplus; Total quality management and European Foundation for Quality Management Excellence Model; understanding of different definitions of quality in software engineering; developing KPIs.
18 Quality Assurance Auditing - The quality audit process; - different types of audit and their application; - techniques used for planning, executing, reporting and following up audits.
19 Advanced Techniques for Business Process Improvement - More complex tools and techniques associated with the analysis, modelling and streamlining of business processes.
20 Investigation Techniques - Investigation and elicitation techniques — such as interviews, workshops, observation and statistical analysis — to obtain complete and accurate information about business areas and systems of interest.
21 Service Management Standards - Approaches, frameworks and standards for service management, such as ITIL, SIAM, VeriSM, CMMI Services and the international standard ISO/IEC 20000 for IT service management.
22 Report Writing - Methods, techniques and standards for writing concise, accurate and effective reports.
23 Presentation Skills - Methods and techniques for verbal and visual communication in a formal or semi-formal environment, including face-to-face and online.
24 Process Improvement Methods and Tools - Process improvement methods to identify process bottlenecks and inefficiencies such as Six Sigma and Lean IT. - The tools and techniques to implement measurement-based strategies that focuses on process improvement.
25 Process Documentation Techniques - Techniques used to create process documentation that sets out the necessary steps to complete a specific task or workflow, such as a standard operating procedure (SOP), or to act as a best-practice blueprint; the resulting documentation clearly describing how the process should be completed.
26 Programming Tools - High-level language, software tools and operating system facilities used in the normal course of development work.
27 System Testing - Methods and procedures for planning, specifying and executing tests — including levels of testing, e.g. unit testing, integration testing, system testing, user acceptance testing, regression testing, live user testing, etc.
28 Release Management - The management of the processes, systems and functions to package, build, test and deploy changes and updates that are bounded as releases into the pre-production or production environment.
29 AI and Machine Learning - AI and machine learning methods, tools and techniques that enable computers to model behaviours based on empirical data in order to solve business problems and/or provide greater business insight.
30 Time Management - The processes, tools, techniques and methods that can be used to prioritise, plan and exercise control over time spent on specific work and non-work activities in order to increase effectiveness, efficiency and productivity.
31 Operating Systems and Middleware - Vendor specific operating system software that manages computer hardware and resources to provide common services for computer programs and middleware software that lies between an operating system and the applications running on it, enabling communication and data management for distributed applications.
32 Risk Management Methods, Techniques and Tools - Methods, techniques and tools for the analysis, assessment and management of risk.
33 Structured Reviews, Walkthroughs and Inspections - Methods and techniques for peer reviews, walkthroughs and formal inspections of all types of project artefacts, e.g. technical, quality and management products.
34 Business Modelling and Analysis Techniques - Techniques used to investigate, analyse and model the structures, people, processes, information and technology within a business area or system of interest.
35 Software Quality Assurance Techniques - Methods, techniques and standards for the quality assurance of the software development process.
36 Test and Performance Measurement Equipment - The use and deployment of test and performance measurement equipment to meet the operational and/or developmental needs of a specialist communications system or sub-system.
37 Accessibility - Methods and techniques that ensure users with physical impairments or learning disorders are not disadvantaged by the system.
38 Service Delivery - The service delivery processes: systems, products, services, hardware and software environment.
39 Infrastructure Hardware and System Software - Hardware, communication networks and system software that provide the organisation’s IT infrastructure; features of the infrastructure that need to be taken account of in hardware/software installation, with due attention to sustainability impacts e.g. back-up and recovery, virtualisation techniques to optimise efficient energy use of system hardware components, load sharing in communication networks; availability and use of cloud services.
40 Big Data, Analytics and Security - Techniques, methods and skills required for big data and analytics. - Current and emerging analytical tools and applications used to support data analytics, particularly algorithms and statistical and machine learning techniques. - Methods and strategies used to ensure the quality and security of data.
41 Own Organisation’s Systems, Products and Services - Understanding the organisation’s systems, products and services to enable selling, support and development activities.
42 Service Management - Principles, methods, tools and techniques for managing IT services, including the preparation, understanding and use of service level agreements, operational level agreements and underpinning contracts.
43 Application Area - The structure, business and methods of the employing organisation, particularly in respect of any application area of specialisation, including user behaviours, ways of working and locations.
44 Information Retrieval Tools - Use of automated tools (including statistical and analytical tools) that enable selective access to information held within databases or other forms of data repository.
45 Usability Evaluation Techniques - Methods and techniques for the assessment of IT product usability, accessibility and health and safety throughout the lifecycle of development projects.
46 Supplier Evaluation and Selection - Good practice approaches to the analytical comparison of product or service suppliers against agreed business requirements and internal policy to determine the best overall outcome for the organisation.
